Laptop Repairs - good honest advice is such a rare commodity, but why?

Small High Street Shops: These days almost all PC shops and even some phone shops have slung a ‘Laptop Repairs’ sign in the window. It takes a lot more than a sign in the window to become a top rate laptop repair centre. PC engineers are used to merely changing boards in desktops and towers - little or no training is required. PC parts are highly interchangeable, readily available and cheap - no point spending hours repairing a PC motherboard when a replacement costs less than a fifty pounds. Laptops are very different - every model is unique and very few parts are interchangeable, so a component level repair maybe the only way to save the machine. Some of these shops don’t even have engineers, microfine soldering tools or a precision screwdriver set in the shop. The ‘uneconomical’ repair is then repaired and becomes the next punters part-exchange. Shops will always try to sell you a replacement laptop.

This issue normally occurs when the contacts between the memory slot and the motherboard degrade to a point where the memory controller cannot reliably read from or write to memory.
